The Inventive Step adapts, combines, trains and modifies proven technologies for natural language processing (AI) and make them applicable for different field. The focus field for the comapny is complex and often hard to comprehend patent texts. The goal is to approach the human interpretation of text as closely as possible with a machine that can do it much faster.
In 2021 the company was granted the ‘MIT Haalbaarheid’ subsidy of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. After focusing on developing our core technology for almost a year, we are now researching its market potential. We are investigating: technological feasibility of different applications, ime-to-market, market potential and User Needs. These research proceedings will help us shape our first product, to be launched at the end of 2022: Invention Check. Part of this research is a survey with our potential end-users. Our technology is focused on finding relationships between patents based on the descriptive meaning of words using actual linguistic interpretation. This more closely simulates how an actual human would analyze a patent. We train machine learning models, capable of identifying similarities between patent documents. With this technology we will develop user-friendly web-based applications that allow the user to obtain valuable insight into patent data in just a fraction of the time it would take a human to process documents by hand. Our technique could be used by innovative actors like: Inventors, Patent Attorneys, Patent Searchers, Patent Analysts, Business developers, Market researchers, Technology transfer officers, (scholarly) Researchers, IP consultants, etc..
‘Invention Check’ will be the first product we launch in 2022. Invention Check allows the inventive actor to find the closest patent documents to an invention. The results will be shown in an easy to comprehend way to the user. Our technique will make sure the analysis is done with high precision and without missing out on any relevant documents.
